ANI

Automatic number identification (ANI) is used to determine the origination telephone number on toll calls for billing purposes. ANI service captures a caller’s telephone number and line type even if caller ID blocking is used.

Application

An application is a collection of functions grouped for a single purpose. The following types of applications are examples of services: prepaid calling, collect calling, IP conferencing, and credit card billing.

Called Function

A called function is a function that is invoked by the Call a Function PAC.

DN

Directory Number

DTMF

Dual-Tone Multi-Frequency (DTMF) signaling, commonly known as touch-tone dialing, uses audible tones for each dialed digit to control automated equipment and signal user intent.

Event Handler

An event handler is a function that executes in response to a particular event.

Function

Functions are a series of connected PACs. Each application is made up of several functions.

HTTP

Hypertext transfer protocol (HTTP) is a request/response networking protocol for distributed, collaborative, hypermedia information systems. This protocol is defined in RFC 2616.

IETF

The Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) is an Internet standards body.

IMAP

Internet message access protocol (IMAP) is an Internet standard protocol for electronic mail retrieval. This protocol is defined in RFC 3501.

IMS

IP Multimedia Systems (IMS) is a system architecture used to deliver IP multimedia services.

IN

Intelligent Network (IN) is a standard network architecture for land line and mobile telecommunications networks. The intelligence in the network is provided by network nodes (switches or telephone equipment).

SDP

Session Description Protocol (SDP) defines how multimedia sessions can be set up so all end points can participate in the session.

SIGTRAN

Signaling Transport protocol that is an extension of the SS7 protocols.

SIP

Session initiation protocol (SIP) is a signaling protocol used to control communication sessions over IP. This text-based protocol incorporates many of the elements of HTTP and SMTP and is defined in RFC 3261.

SMTP

Simple mail transfer protocol (SMTP) is the Internet standard for electronic mail transmission across IP. This protocol is defined in RFC 821.

SOAP

Simple object access protocol (SOAP) is a W3C (world wide web consortium) recommendation and is an XML-based protocol designed for the exchange of information in a decentralized distributed environment.

SS7

Signaling System No. 7. (SS7) is a set of signaling protocols used to set up and tear down calls.
